10 awesome examples of modern handmade brush fonts

The thing I like best about brush fonts is their hand-drawn nature. No, not drawn hand painted nature. With paint, it’s almost impossible to keep your brush marks under total control.

Modern brush fonts

Irregular brush marks, thick and thin, expressive strokes with wobbly lines and the odd paint drip.

In a time where everything is pixel perfect and aligned to a precise grid its great to see designers rebel.

Ditching the Illustrator vector and using dry brush marks, paint splatter and thick Chinese brushes dipped in ink—love it.

Don’t get me wrong. I love modern typography as much as the next person. But give me paint and a brush and I’m as happy as Larry.

JackSway was inspired by Jazz music. Its brush marks are kind of kooky but I like that. It comes with two other complimentary styles and dingbats.

Portobesto Brush Script Trio

Portobesto Brush Script font handwriting

Portobesto Brush Script by Katsia Jazwinska

Portobesto is a cool looking cursive brush script by Katsia Jazwinska, from Belarus.

With 3 different styles, I love the way Portobesto is properly cursive. The letters join in an almost seamless way, like proper handwriting, but with a brush.

Daft Brush

Daft a handmade brush font by PintassilgoPrints

A cool font by PintassilgoPrints a type foundry based in the sunny city of Florianópolis, Brazil.

I’m not quite sure why this is called Daft brush? Sure it’s a bit kooky but the daft name does not do it justice. I like the typeface, its got a spontaneity and energetic spirit, that just makes you love it.

Perfect for fun packaging designs.
