This double-exposure portrait explores the contrast between the performer and the person behind the songs. Overlapping imagery, layered colour and expressive details merge within his silhouette, creating a portrait that reveals more the longer you look at it.
I created the original artwork on my iPad, digitally combining different painting techniques and photographic elements before printing it onto a wood panel. I then worked back into the image by hand, adding real paint, drips and physical textures.
The finished piece sits somewhere between digital collage, portraiture and a traditional mixed-media painting. Its layered imagery, visible brush marks and hand-applied details give the surface genuine depth, making every copy slightly different.
It would make a distinctive gift for any Ed Sheeran fan, music lover or collector of contemporary portrait art — particularly someone who wants something with more character than a conventional poster.
I only have two copies of this artwork. Each one is finished individually by hand, so the paint marks and finer details will vary slightly from the image shown.
