I created the name Hello Monday for my font before releasing it in 2018. I searched the font marketplaces available at the time and couldn't find another typeface using it. The name was unique, so I kept it. Other fonts called Hello Monday appeared later, but they're unrelated releases from different designers. This is the story of where my original name came from—and how to identify the font that belongs to it.
Who created the original Hello Monday font?
I did. I'm Simon Stratford, an independent type designer based in London, and I created and released my Hello Monday font in May 2018.
I first sold it through Creative Market and my own website. You can still buy my original version from the official Hello Monday font product page.
Was Hello Monday a unique font name?
Yes. Before releasing the font, I searched to see whether another typeface already used the name Hello Monday. I couldn't find one.
That mattered. A distinctive name makes a font easier to remember, search for and recommend. It also helps buyers identify the correct typeface when several products have similar styles.
The name was available, it suited the font and—more importantly—I could remember it the following morning. So it stayed.
Where did the name Hello Monday come from?
It came directly out of my head. I normally released new fonts on Mondays, so I combined “hello” with “Monday”.
There wasn't a strategy meeting, a naming agency or a mood board covered in expensive sticky notes. It simply made sense: a new font arriving at the beginning of a new week.
I released Hello Monday in May 2018 through Creative Market and SimonStratford.com.
Are all fonts called Hello Monday the same?
No. Several unrelated fonts now use the name Hello Monday, but they don't come from the same designer and aren't different versions of one typeface.
My Hello Monday is the hand-painted OpenType SVG brush script created by Simon Stratford and released in 2018. The designer's name and original release date provide the clearest way to distinguish it from later products with the same title.
I can't say how other designers arrived at the name. I can only say that I searched before my release, found no existing font using it and created my version first.
If it turns out I didn't come up with the name first, I apologise unreservedly and I'd change it immediately. In fact, I may have to change it anyway, as everyone seems to want to call their font Hello Monday. Perhaps Hi Tuesday. Or Tuesday Is the New Monday.
Is the name Hello Monday protected by copyright?
A name or short phrase isn't normally protected by copyright on its own. Copyright instead protects original creative work such as the font software, letter artwork, product images and written material.
Trade mark rights are a separate issue and can apply to names used commercially. Creating a name first doesn't automatically grant ownership of every possible use of those words.
What is Simon Stratford's Hello Monday font?
Hello Monday is a detailed OpenType SVG brush-script font made from real painted lettering. It retains the texture, transparency and rough edges of the original acrylic brush marks.
Unlike a conventional outline font, it contains embedded colour artwork. This gives the characters the irregular detail of actual paint rather than a digitally simulated brush effect.

What makes the original Hello Monday distinctive?
The font combines genuine painted texture with extensive alternative characters and ligatures. Its main features include:
- 243 glyphs
- Approximately 91 alternatives across 46 letters
- 29 standard ligature substitutions
- Three discretionary ligature substitutions
- Uppercase and lowercase letters
- Numerals, punctuation and selected symbols
- Original high-resolution letter artwork
These alternatives make it easier to vary repeated letters, so the finished typography feels less mechanical.

When was Hello Monday released?
I created and released Hello Monday in May 2018. It initially appeared on Creative Market and my own website.
That 2018 release date helps distinguish my font from unrelated typefaces that later appeared with the same name.
Is Hello Monday a free font?
No. Hello Monday is a commercially licensed font.
You'll need the appropriate licence for your intended use. Desktop licensing covers standard design work, while additional options cover uses such as apps, electronic documents and digital advertising.
Where can I buy the original Hello Monday font?
You can buy the original Simon Stratford version directly from SimonStratford.com. It is also available through Creative Market.
Check that the product identifies Simon Stratford as the designer and describes the font as a hand-painted OpenType SVG typeface.
Hello Monday font FAQs

Hello Monday contains 243 glyphs, including uppercase A–Z, lowercase a–z, numerals, common punctuation, currency characters and selected typographic symbols. It supports Basic English and unaccented Latin text.
Does Hello Monday include alternatives and ligatures?
Yes. It contains approximately 91 alternative designs covering 46 base letters, plus 29 standard ligature substitutions and three discretionary ligatures. These include combinations such as as, ee, es, ff, fi, fl, ft, ll, oo, th, tt and ys.

How many weights are included?
One style is included. Its full font name is Hello Monday SVG Light, although the font's technical subfamily is Regular. Its character alternatives provide visual variety rather than multiple weights.
What files are included?

- One 268.7 MB layered Photoshop file
- 318 high-resolution PNG assets
- Ten seamless pattern PNGs
- Installation documentation
The Photoshop and PNG assets include the original high-resolution letter artwork.
Which software supports Hello Monday?
The painted appearance requires software that supports OpenType SVG colour fonts. Recommended minimum versions include Adobe Photoshop CC 18, Adobe Illustrator CC 22 and Adobe InDesign CC 13.0.1.
Some applications may install the font but fail to display its texture correctly. The included Photoshop and PNG artwork provides an alternative way to use the letters.
Can the colour be changed?
Yes. You can recolour the lettering in compatible software using overlays, layer effects and other image-based methods. Because the font contains embedded artwork, changing its colour isn't always as simple as recolouring a conventional vector font.
Can Hello Monday be used commercially?
Yes. Subject to the licence you purchase, you can use Hello Monday for logos, packaging, posters, advertising, music artwork and other commercial designs.
You can use the font to create finished artwork, but you can't redistribute the font files or supply reusable individual glyphs to other people.
Visit the official Hello Monday product page for current licence options and prices.
