About Freddie Mercury painting

Freddie Mercury at Live Aid is one of those performances that has become bigger than the concert itself. One man, one microphone and a packed Wembley Stadium responding to every movement.

This slightly abstract painting captures the colour, confidence and sheer theatrical energy of that unforgettable performance. Bright, expressive brushwork and fractured details give the image movement, allowing Freddie to emerge through the marks rather than feeling like a conventional portrait.

I created the original artwork on my iPad, digitally combining different painting techniques before printing it onto a wood panel. I then worked back into the image by hand, adding real paint, drips and physical textures.

The finished piece sits somewhere between a digital portrait and a traditional mixed-media painting. Its vivid colours, visible brush marks and hand-applied details give the surface genuine depth, making every copy slightly different.

It would make a distinctive gift for any Freddie Mercury fan, Queen enthusiast or collector of colourful music art — particularly someone who wants a little more drama on their walls.

I only have two copies of this artwork. Each one is finished individually by hand, so the paint marks and finer details will vary slightly from the image shown.

Please note: The painting will be sent using Royal Mail 48. Delivery usually takes 2–3 working days from dispatch.
