About Misfitz font

Misfitz is a bold sans-serif display font with clean geometric shapes, eccentric proportions and plenty of alternate characters. I made it for branding, packaging, posters and headlines that need more than another standard geometric sans-serif.

I like geometric sans-serifs, but plenty of them are difficult to tell apart. Misfitz started with the same clean structure, then I pushed it somewhere less predictable.

I drew it on an iPad, mixing 1930s geometric lettering with late nineteenth-century American wood type. Some characters are wide, some are narrow and others tuck into each other. It makes words feel built rather than simply typed.

Misfitz is bold, slightly odd and impossible to mistake for Helvetica—which is already a decent reason to use it.

Made for big type

Misfitz works best when you give it some room. Use it for logos, packaging, posters, advertising and editorial headlines where the shape of the words matters as much as what they say.

It remains legible at smaller sizes, but it was never intended for long passages of body text.

More than one version of the alphabet

Misfitz includes contextual alternates, interlocking letter pairs and several stylistic sets.

The contextual alternates automatically change certain characters when they appear together. Interlocking pairs pull letters into tighter compositions, while the stylistic sets include underlined characters and alternative wide or narrow forms.

These aren’t obscure extras added to make the feature list longer. They give you practical ways to change the rhythm and shape of a word.

You can switch them on through the OpenType controls in compatible design software. For more control, open the Glyphs panel and choose each character manually. The standard alphabet is only half the point.

Where to use Misfitz

Misfitz works particularly well for:

  • Branding and logo design
  • Packaging
  • Posters and advertising
  • Editorial headlines
  • Invitations and stationery
  • Stickers, merchandise and wall art

If you want the type to disappear quietly into the background, Misfitz is probably the wrong choice.

Language support

Misfitz includes an extended character set supporting Western, Central and Eastern European languages.

Open the Glyphs or OpenType panel in your design software. In Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, select your text and choose Window → Type → Glyphs to view and insert alternative characters. Ligatures and stylistic sets can be enabled through the OpenType panel. In Affinity apps, use the Typography panel. OpenType support varies between applications, so some features may not be available in simpler design programs.

Yes. The Desktop Licence covers creating logos, brand identities, packaging and other static designs. You may supply finished or outlined artwork to a client, but you cannot pass on the font files. Anyone who needs to install or work with the font must have their own licence.

The font remains non-exclusive, so other customers may also use it. If you need something unique to your brand, contact me about a modified or fully custom typeface.

Because fonts are digital products, purchases are generally non-refundable once the files have been downloaded. If a file is faulty, you accidentally purchased the same font twice or you need help with installation, please contact me and I’ll help resolve the issue.

If you have any problems with the font, please contact me through the website and I’ll be happy to help. Include the font name, your order number, the software and operating system you are using, and a screenshot if possible. This will help me identify the problem more quickly.

If the font is an OpenType SVG bitmap it preserves detailed textures, transparency and natural variations that ordinary vector fonts cannot. However, they are not supported by every application and may not work correctly in older software, Canva, Microsoft Office or some web-based design tools.

Because the letters contain high-resolution bitmap artwork, they cannot be enlarged indefinitely without eventually showing pixelation. Recolouring and converting text to outlines may also be limited. For the best results, use a recent version of Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign and create your artwork close to its final output size.
