About Jonny Rotten painting

Johnny Rotten never looked or sounded like someone asking for permission. As the snarling voice of the Sex Pistols, he helped turn frustration, confrontation and three unruly chords into a cultural explosion.

This expressive portrait captures that defiant energy without trying to make anything neat or respectable. Rough brushwork, clashing colour and fractured details give the painting a suitably abrasive edge, allowing his face to emerge through the marks rather than sit politely on top of them.

I created the original artwork on my iPad, digitally combining different painting techniques before printing it onto a wood panel. I then worked back into the image by hand, adding real paint, drips and physical textures.

The finished piece sits somewhere between a digital portrait and a traditional mixed-media painting. Visible brush marks and hand-applied details give the surface genuine depth, making every copy slightly different.

It would make a distinctive gift for any Johnny Rotten fan, Sex Pistols enthusiast or collector of punk art — particularly someone whose walls could do with being a little less well behaved.

I only have two copies of this artwork. Each one is finished individually by hand, so the paint marks and finer details will vary slightly from the image shown.

Please note: The painting will be sent using Royal Mail 48. Delivery usually takes 2–3 working days from dispatch.
